We pitched the idea of having a pick up booklet available in shops etc showing you the 'Four C's' of diamonds and general tips and good questions to ask. The tutors really liked the idea of gunning for the secrecy idea, and trying to keep it a secret from the partner
After some good discussion we hit upon the idea of a website, where you need to be emailed a code to get in. Before the code, it's very cryptic, after the code the website kind of unlocks. This is so that it's a secret from your partner.
Then again, there's nothing wrong with having the website open, showing advice that anyone can benefit from on how to buy a diamond engagement ring and any other useful information, they can then order a guide and download an app.
The actual app itself, as it's going to be on a smartphone, could easily be accessed by the partner so the app will have a lock on it. Once you sign up to the app, you would type in your email address and get this e-mailed to you, you then use this unique code to sign in to the app.
The app itself, will be the definitive guide from us including all the information, a checklist of things to consider and types of engagement rings you could enquire about. This will be after the information so you can be informed and then be confident enough to begin choosing. You can also download the companion shopping guide which will again remind you of the stuff you'd learnt on the website/app.
The companion booklet will be pocket size, designed to take with you when shopping as an unbiased information tool on diamonds as it's a lot of information and quite daunting for an individual.
This is designed so that even a person without a smartphone can get the same information as someone that does. They can read the information on the website and order a companion guide. Or they can read the app and use the companion guide if they so wish. Although as phones are portable, we could add a note taking and checklist feature in the app too.
The envelope itself which will be mailed out will be incredibly basic and uninviting, in an effort for unwanted people opening it up!
At the moment, there's alot going on but I think we have a good basis here. Everyone's assigned roles. Sam is looking into the infographics for the app/website. I'm going to design the splash logo/badge for the group and app etc so will probably work quite closely with Sam. Emma/Luke are looking at the companion guide. Imogen will be also helping out and finding out and getting all the information to us as she's the most clued up on it.
The tone of voice won't be too formal, it's for an everyday person of all ages and backgrounds. It's not designed for diamond experts or enthusiasts. It's basically designed as a tool giving tips on how to propose best, what kind of rings and diamonds there are available, useful terms and questions they need to ask and tips on how to find out ring size of partner etc. Just to give confidence and make the first step on going out and buying one.
Lot of work is in order but it could be pretty good in the end.
