VERBAL ACROBATICS: 90s

I've been looking over the visual styles, in particular for the songs I want to work on and feel I should really channel the album covers typographic style and colour pallette towards my designs, but in keeping with my own visual style. If I fully reference the album covers, I'll end up with posters which just look like countless posters already out there, like this one

Instead I'm going to tighten up the packaging for the vinyls, keeping it quite neutral and mysterious in style and then create an explosion of colour inside the package, with the posters. I feel this would be a healthy balance between my style and the styles I'm referencing.

Here's the process for the 90's sleeve front cover.

Wu Tang Clan - 36 Chambers
Song "Da Mystery of Chessboxing"

A Tribe Called Quest - Peoples Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm
Song "Can I Kick It?"

Notorious Big - Ready To Die
Song "Juicy"

Nas - Illmatic
Song "It Ain't Hard To Tell"

I'm not going to visualise the WHOLE song, but instead memorable and notable sentences and bars. To create a wholesome image of the song, hopefully creating a sort of karaoke, sing a long feel, emphasising memorable bars you can point out while listening to the record. In the albums visual style and colour palette in an experimental and minimal manner.
