Alphabet Soup

Yesterday we got our OUGD403 module brief and studie brief 1 which was called Alphabet Soup.

The deliverables for the module are 10 well crafted and clearly presented typographic forms in 15x15cm format based on a random word.

My word was BUILD

Pictures attached are of short exercises to get used to working within frames, eg making a triangle look cold, a circle look quick.

I also started thinking about the word build and having a go at a few designs. It would be a good idea to use the alphabet I collected over summer and trace over existing letterforms and use them as a starting point.

Some brainstorming ideas I wrote down were:

Builder
Strengthen
Destroy
Destruct
Destruction
Rome wasn't built in a day
Rome
If you build it they will come
Noun-constitution of the human body
Bolster
Roman colloseum?
Verb-developed
Building tools
DIY
Greyscale/halftone/gradient
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog
Character build
Wireframe?
Scaffolding?
Software build?
Binary?
Roman letters?
Roman numerals

Sketch/illustrate/trace
Sketch/illustrate/vinyl cut?

Look at dictionary and thesaurus. Look at dictionary and thesaurus for the opposite of build too - destroy, destruct, build, shatter etc
