How To...

Last night (and some of today) I was thinking about how the infograph poster would look and what would be the most efficient way to crunch all the information and message we want to communicate, in the best way possible. So I started sketching and noting down anything that came into my head and I think I came across quite a decent solution for the chart. I'm yet to discuss this with the group but I reckon they won't really understand it unless I make a knock upso hopefully by tomorrow I'll have a knock up to show, which I'll put up on this blog too. Steph is the masterful wizard of simplified icons so if the idea goes down well, Steph's icons will most likely be used instead.

Here's some of the sketches:

As you can see in the 2nd photo, on the bottom right of the page there's a load of numbers and adding up. This is me working out how the chart would work. Basically there will be 11 columns, on the left hand side, the first column will be Boring Barry. On the right, on the 11th column, will be Boozy Barry. The reason I chose an odd number of columns, of course, was so in the middle at number 6, will be Best Barry.

Each column will hold 3 different icons. Money, Luxuries and Booze. Boring Barry will have little money, little booze and many luxuries, Boozy Barry will have little money, little luxuries and plenty of booze. Best Barry would hopefully have a perfectly equal share of each which will be 6 of each icon. This is why I did all the confusing numbers so I get the right kind of information communicated in an easy manner. Fortunately, according to the numbers it will work out, and the shape of the chart will be the arch shown in the 2nd picture, on the left page.

I also sketched some layouts for the posters too. I think it might be a good idea to have little icons next to each tip aswell, so I started doing some rubbish little sketches for icons in the 3rd photo. For example a man walking, would be the icon for "Start walking to college instead of getting a bus or taxi" and so on and so forth..

I've got a few decent (very rough and they only probably make sense to me) sketches for the overall layout of the poster. I would have liked to have had a decent attempt at a full poster with the title, tips, icons and all the little aspects all done to a decent level but I think that might have to be done tomorrow at college. For now, I will knock up the chart idea and go from there.
