WEDDINGS/DATING ON TV

I thought it would be useful to look into wedding related tv shows. Here is some information and clips for various different shows. There's popular channels like Wedding TV which broadcast the stuff daily, all day.

Bridezilla's

Bridezilla is the name given to an unpleasant and demanding, perfectionist bride. The first time this term was coined was in The Boston Globe, in 1995. There's a tv show which documents brides like these!

"In the first season, the majority of the subjects were young, white, spoiled, wealthy residents of New York. In subsequent seasons, the show has included a more diverse range of subjects, including older, African-American, and working class couples; couples from California,Texas, and Wisconsin. While the show is predominantly about female brides, the third season featured the show's first male bride - referred to as "Gayzilla" - Jon Taylor Carter, who was planning a wedding for he and his partner Isaac."

Don't Tell The Bride

Don't Tell The Bride is when an engaged couple basically arrange the wedding without consulting each other. Broadcasted on BBC Three, The shows format consists of a couple given a £12,000 budget and must spend three weeks apart. The groom must sort out everything, the venue, service, stag and hen night, bride and grooms outfits, bridesmaids dresses and everything else.

My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding

Very extravagant weddings, very family related weddings following the British and Irish traveller community. Marriages to people outside of the traveller community is frowned upon, as seen in Series 2 Episode 2. It was a massive hit, being among the highest rated shows on Channel 4 for years. Deals with the issues travellers face and their segregation from widespread society.

Brides on a Bus
A reality tv show where different women compete to be a bride. With challenges such as sheep-herding, cheese rolling and playing football with a premiership footballer. Clearly all these qualities make you an ideal wife. They compete to win a wedding in Gretna Green.

Grace and Mikey's Big Wedding
One of them Big Brother weddings. The era of reality tv has made many reality celebrities get married in front of our eyes, like these too.

Take Me Out
A dating show where a male contestant presents himself to about 20 girls. As we find out more about the individual, the girls keep or turn their light off "No likey, no lightey!" In the end, there's usually 1 or 2 girls left and the individual ends up with someone to take on a date and see where to go from there.

Blind Date
Cilla Black! Classic dating game show, where a male/female is behind a screen and talks about himself to 3 males/females who then decide to give the person a go or not.

The Shaadi Show

There have also been matchmaking concepts in other countries too, like Shaadi Show

Keeping Up With The Kardashians

Kim Kardashian recently got married to Kris Humphries, which ended in divorce not long after. Keeping Up With The Kardashians follows the Kardashians in their daily lives and it also covered the build up to the wedding. It was one of the biggest celebrity weddings of the past few years, so it would be interesting to find out how much they spent and what the records are for the most extravagant weddings ever.
