LWLIES: TRON

This brief is the most fun I've had on a little live brief for a while! Never thought I'd enjoy this or even produce something anything close to what I've done, never done pixel art in my life so this was a great opportunity and very exciting.

The brief was from Little White Lies in association with the new Disney Animation - Wreck It Ralph. The brief was already pretty tight and didn't need any real focus, it was just a matter of picking something and going with it.  The concept is simple - produce a video game start-screen for any Disney movie from the archives, it has to be in the retro 8bit style.

##Full Brief

THE BRIEF

Inspired by Wreck-It Ralph's 8-bit theme, we want you to design a start screen for a fictional 8-bit Disney video game using that beloved relic of computer art software, MS Paint. You can choose any animated or live action film from the Disney archives, but your design must be original.
All Windows users should have MS Paint right there in your programs folder. Mac users can download a faithful emulation at paintbrush.sourceforge.net

THE PRIZE

One winner, as judged by the LWLies creative team, will receive an iPad Mini (Wi-Fi 16GB in black). Each entry will also be included in a special Facebook gallery after the competition has closed.

HOW TO ENTER

Artwork should be created at 640 x 480 and submitted as a PNG or GIF file to competitions@thechurchoflondon.com with the subject line 'Wreck-It Ralph Competition' by midnight onMonday 18 February.
Please remember to include your full name in the email. You can also tweet your entry to @LWLies using the hashtag #wreckitralphcomp
Official synopsis: Wreck-It Ralph (voiced by John C Reilly) longs to be as beloved as his game’s perfect Good Guy, Fix-It Felix (voiced by Jack McBrayer). Problem is, nobody loves a Bad Guy. But they do love heroes… so when a modern, first-person shooter game arrives featuring tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voiced by Jane Lynch), Ralph sees it as his ticket to heroism and happiness. He sneaks into the game with a simple plan—win a medal—but soon wrecks everything, and accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens every game in the arcade. Ralph’s only hope? Vanellope von Schweetz (voiced by Sarah Silverman), a young troublemaking 'glitch' from a candy-coated cart racing game who might just be the one to teach Ralph what it means to be a Good Guy. But will he realise he is good enough to become a hero before it’s 'Game Over' for the entire arcade?
Wreck-it Ralph is in cinemas 8 February 2013, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D in select cinemas

##Design Development

This is awful I know but this was the first digital effort I did, I basically created a live paint grid, whereby I filled each individual tiny square 'pixel' with the bucket. This is a tester to just get my idea out there and see how animation works as this was the exciting aspect for me. It worked out fine and you can see the similarities between the finished effort.
